Drilling, Completion and Well Stimulation
Decades of experience in drilling operations, drilling fluids design and selection, well stimulation and well materials selection enables OCTL to offer a range of consultancy services to complement our laboratory capabilities and provide additional value to our clients’ drilling operations.
This consultancy service portfolio includes:
Drilling Fluid Tender Support: Reviewing drilling requirements and challenges, issuing technical documents for mud tenders, evaluating tender responses on commercial and technical grounds, auditing facilities and engineering support services.
Completion Optimisation: Assessing wellbore clean-up requirements and placement techniques, providing a technical review of damage risks and options for prevention and remedial treatments, reviewing chemical additives and potential damage during drilling operations, materials selection and compatibility with completion and clean-up chemicals.
Quality Assurance: Designing and developing QA procedures to ensure drilling fluids, additives, completion fluids and brines meet quality requirements to appropriate international and internal standards, and ensuring that monitoring and measuring is correctly undertaken, reported and reviewed.
Heavy Oil Development: Optimising drilling and completion fluids to avoid damage in heavy oil reservoirs from emulsion blockage, adverse wettability, inorganic and organic scale formation, wax and asphaltene precipitation.
Materials Selection: Assessing the corrosion risk during production from saline brine, CO2 and H2S under field conditions, and selection of alloys and materials for the well completion, production tubing, wellhead, critical well items and elastomer seals.
Well stimulation: Identifying wellbore damage from historic data, geochemistry, fluid compositions and laboratory evaluations. Designing appropriate chemical stimulations to remove damage from drilling and completion fluids, as well as from inappropriate acid stimulation, scale formation, solids plugging, asphaltene, organic scales and emulsions.
Personnel: Providing senior drilling engineers to supervise drilling operations at the well site or client office, and field chemists for on-site analysis and QA operations.
